The President’s Message, Fall 2015

Dear Neighbors,

Our association has been hard at work. The reenactment of the Battle of Fort Slongo on October 10th was an exciting event. You can read more about the event in this issue. We are working with Boy Scout troop 52 on a project at Makamah beach. There is a proposal with the Town of Smithtown zoning board called (Open Meadow) 9 Sunken Meadow road that we oppose and we hope that the Town of Smithtown Zoning board decides that Flag Lots are not for our community.

Mailbox Damaged by a Snowplow? File a Claim

One of the local casualties.

One of the local casualties.

Was your mailbox damaged by a town snowplow during one of the recent storms? If so, help may be available. File a claim with your town for a replacement mailbox. Both Town of Huntington and Town of Smithtown have programs in place. The replacement would be a generic, functional mailbox that meets U.S. Postal Service requirements.

  • For Town of Huntington residents, call 631-499-0444 to file a claim.
  • For Town of Smithtown residents, call 631-360-7500.

Both towns have similar policies for mailbox replacement, and you can read Town of Smithtown’s online.

Do you have other questions or concerns and need to find a town, county, or state department? Use the links on the FSA’s Local Government Web Pages resource to identify the right department and begin your inquiry.

The President’s Message – Summer 2013

grafDear Neighbors,

I took an early morning bike ride up to Geissler’s Beach. On the way home, four deer ran out of the preserve along Makamah Road and picked their way up the hills across the street. It was a sweet reminder of why we live here in Fort Salonga.

Updates: Inside this issue, we present an interview with Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone, good news about Geissler’s Beach, a report about area roads and information about the proposal from St. Johnland known locally as the uplands.
