Dear Fellow Fort Salonga Resident,
Fort Salonga does not happen by accident. It is shaped — deliberately, actively, and urgently — by the people who are willing to stand up and fight for it. Right now, the Fort Salonga Association needs those people. We need you. I am writing to ask you directly: please consider volunteering to serve on our Board of Directors.
The decisions being made today — about development, green space, traffic, community character, and the future of this neighborhood — will define Fort Salonga for the next generation. Those decisions are not made in a vacuum. They are made at town halls, planning boards, and community meetings. And the Fort Salonga Association must have strong, engaged leadership at that table if our voice is going to be heard. We currently have open seats on our Board of Directors, and every empty seat is an opportunity lost.
Board members are the people who shape what this association does, how it spends its energy, and where it focuses its efforts. You do not need a law degree or a background in government. You need to care about this community and be willing to give a few hours a month. Many on our board have been serving for years to protect our community – we are looking for younger members with new fresh ideas. Members meet monthly, and have a direct hand in every initiative the Association undertakes — from local advocacy, issues pertaining to residential and commercial developing, scholarships, saving open space or environmental issues. Also helping at community events like our Spring Egg Hunt and upcoming Fort Slongo 250th celebration (any history buffs?) with events planned for July & October, to beautification efforts and town initiatives (both Smithtown and Huntington).
I have seen firsthand what happens when committed residents step up: things get done. Open space gets protected (Owl Hill estate). Rail yards get blocked. Roads get fixed. Developers get held accountable. And I have seen what happens when good people stay on the sidelines: the community drifts, and the future gets decided by others. Fort Salonga deserves better than that — and so do you. Joining this Board is one of the most direct ways you can shape the future of the place you and your family call home.
Do not wait for someone else to do this. Contact me today (see below), or come to one of our meetings on the first Monday of the month (except holidays – then the following Monday) at the Fort Salonga Elementary School – 7:00pm) and tell us you are ready to serve. Fort Salonga needs your voice, your energy, and your commitment — right now.
The future of this community is not written yet. Let’s write it together.

P.S. Know a neighbor who would make a great Board member? Bring them along. The best thing you can do for Fort Salonga today is to get the right people in the room.
